My name is J Allen Shaw. The "J" stands for James, but friends call me Allen. I am a legally blind poet and children's story book writer. I have not driven a car or worked outside the home since 2013. Like most grandpas, I have had the privilege of watching my grandchildren from time to time. I tried to read to them but it was difficult for me, so I reverted to imagination and creativity. I began writing children's books in December 2016. It was out of this experience that my books, "Brainstorms! Fuzzy Frogs and Slippery Bears," "Brainstorms! A Cave, A Stream, and A Grandpa That Dreams," "Brainstorms! A Big Hole and the North Pole," and, "Life Stinks! So Why Can't I?" and "Brainstorms! Back to the Teacher," "Frankie the Flamingo Finds Nobody's Perfect" were written. My newest children's book, "Brainstorms! A Heart Attack and Grandpa Fights Back" was released in the spring of 2024. In a colorful, humorous way, children and adults will see how important it is to discover that a hospital visit doesn't have to be so scary. I have also ghostwritten several rhyming books, texts for videos, and more recently I have helped provide lyrics for more than 40 songs. I have now delivered over 2700 writing projects to 82 countries around the world. Most recently, I've written my first book for grown-ups, "The Lighter Side of Darkness."
Thank You,
J Allen Shaw
