Kathryn Porter PhD

Kathryn Porter is a Professor of Mathematics in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Saint Mary’s College of California (SMC). She has been teaching future teachers for over 25 years and is an author of many mathematics papers, most of which she has presented at mathematics conferences, and several books about teacher preparation in California. In addition, she started her teaching career as a high school mathematics teacher in Virginia before attending University of Delaware to earn her Ph. D. in Mathematics. Kathryn has also worked with multiple educational testing companies to produce materials for testing and teaching.

She is currently the director of a mathematics 4 + 1 secondary teachers program at SMC and was part of the team to create the Teacher’s for Tomorrow 4 + 1 program at SMC which is designed for future elementary school teachers. In addition, she has held the position of Coordinator of the Mathematics Subject Matter Program at SMC for many years and has advised future elementary teachers and secondary mathematics teachers.

Kathryn is the proud mom of two grown children, one a secondary mathematics teacher and the other a musician. Her interests include reading, movies, and sports.
