Mark R. Anspach

Mark Anspach is the author of “Vengeance in Reverse” and editor of “The Oedipus Casebook” and “Oedipus Unbound: Selected Writings on Rivalry and Desire” by René Girard. A conversation between Girard and Anspach on Oedipus is featured in Cynthia Haven's Penguin Classics Girard reader, “All Desire Is a Desire for Being.”

Anspach wrote the introductory essays for Girard's “Anorexia and Mimetic Desire” and Simon Simonse's “Kings of Disaster” and has contributed to such collective works as “Mimesis and Science” (ed. Scott Garrels) and “Violence and the Sacred in the Ancient Near East” (ed. Ian Hodder).

After studying social theory at Harvard, Anspach went on to earn a PhD in French at Stanford and a doctorate in anthropology in Paris. For details on his many publications in both French and English, please visit the markanspach website.
