Seawater runs in Parani’s veins.
He was only 18 months old when he sat on the captain’s chair on the bridge of a passenger ship. (Actually, he was sitting on the captain’s lap, after slipping away from his parents.)
Who knew that only 28 years later, he would be sitting on the captain’s chair again … but this time, as a real captain, one the youngest in the shipping company MSC’s fleet.
Today, Captain VS Parani is an executive with a multinational shipping company. In his various corporate roles, he has helped improve the fleet safety record, and achieve very high personnel performance. He is also a Fellow of the Nautical Institute, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers and a Member of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology.
Originally from the Andaman Islands, he now lives with his family in Cyprus. He writes blogs on maritime leadership at parani.org.
