Clarence T Jones

I received my Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Howard University and have made a career primarily as a Control Systems Engineer and Technical Instructor in the Automation Industry. I have also worked extensively as a Technical Writer in Software and IT Industries.

Early in my engineering career, I became profoundly aware of the challenging position of professional workers and their constant balancing act of performing daily tasks while keeping abreast of new and emerging technologies used in their work. This awareness and empathy led to my first book, creating a Technical Training Center, and the awakening of my great passion for adult education and learning.

Born of this newfound passion was a dogged intent to learn to present complex technical topics in a method that anyone would understand. Eventually, a book design and development process would unfold, placing user tasks, presentation, quick learning, and retention at the center of my book development focus. This approach, reflected in my subsequent books, would give students and practicing users a straightforward self-teaching guide to the tools and technologies essential in their work.

My genuine passion for adult learning would evolve into technical writing and eventually working as a Technical Author. Several books later, including the MadCap Flare title, I still enjoy helping professionals learn the tools and technologies they need to carry out their work.

For several years now, I have been a freelance technical author. In this role, I have assisted companies with developing software products, training courses, tutorial course-ware, and user documentation.
