Aviram Barkai

Aviram Barkai is primarily a highly respected researcher and an author, who wrote in the last decade four books, all related to the wars of Israel. Barkai participated in the Yom Kipur war in October of 1973 as commanding officer of a platoon in an armor Brigade.

Barkai was released from his service in the IDF, and some years later he re-enlisted into the IDF to a period in which he served as the commander of the operational mobilization in the Israeli Special Forces.

In addition to the above, Barkai was occupied as a tour guide leading off-road driving tours throughout Israel and the deserts of Sinai and Egypt, participated in motorcycle races, had columns in Israel's leading motor magazines, wrote eleven books in the areas of off-road driving, rescue operations, and touring, and… he also wrote a children's book just for the satisfaction of his soul.

Out of a total of his sixteen books " For Heaven's Sake " is Barkai's fourteenth book.

For Heaven's Sake - Squadron 201th and the Yom Kippur War - tells the story of a unique Israeli Air Force squadron F4. The squadron suffered many losses, nevertheless it continued fighting and gained victories during the war. In addition to the decision-making and conflicts of the government and IDF command prior to and during the war, the book goes deep into the air-crew's personal stories, emotions, and fears, as well as the suffering of those who were downed and ejected beyond enemy lines and consequently became POWs. The book details the successful attacks executed through fire on targets in Syria and Egypt, as well as heroic air-combats held by few pilots against many that emerged victorious.
