Danette St. Onge was born in California to a Thai mother and American father and grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and in Bangkok, Thailand. After returning to the U.S., her family opened a restaurant where they served both Thai and American food. She started writing about food professionally in 2000 and went on to work as an editor for Cook's Illustrated magazine, part of America's Test Kitchen. She lived in Italy for five years and was the Italian Food Expert for About.com (now The Spruce Eats) for three. She has contributed writing and editing to Saveur and the Food Network and co-authored a new Lonely Planet guidebook for Paris. She currently divides her time between Paris and London.
