Jeff Gilliland

Jeff Gilliland is a published author, journalist and screenwriter based out of the San Francisco Bay Area. He has written on a number of historical subjects, from World War II to the legacy of Malcolm X, to the life of a little-known Mexican-American U.S. Marshal in early-20th century New Mexico. He also writes short fiction and scholarly essays addressing human identity and the environmental crisis.

Jeff's first book, Four Dollars and a Dream, is the biography of his great-uncle, Cino ("Gino") Chegia. Based on Cino's handwritten memoirs, the book follows its intrepid and charismatic hero from a war-torn Italian fishing village to a new life across the sea in America. Cheer for Cino as he dodges bombs, saves the day, flees oppression, jumps ship, earns his citizenship, builds a career, starts a family and founds one of Oakland, CA's first youth soccer leagues.
