Pablo Alonso Gonzalez

Pablo Alonso González is a Tenured Scientist in Anthropology at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), where he leads research at the intersection of anthropology, environmental humanities, heritage studies, food, and science and technology studies. He holds a PhD in Archaeology and Heritage Studies from the University of Cambridge and a PhD in History from the University of León.

He is the Principal Investigator of the ERC Consolidator Grant FRONTCAT, a major European research project on multispecies governance, biodiversity conflicts, animal welfare, and rural-urban tensions. His academic work has explored cultural heritage, nationalism, food systems, natural wine, environmental change, and human-animal relations, with extensive research in Spain, Latin America, and the Canary Islands.

Alongside his scholarly work, Pablo writes for a broader public on bioenergetics, metabolism, thyroid health, dietary fats, and the history and health controversies surrounding seed oils, drawing critically on the work of Ray Peat and related bioenergetic approaches. He is the author of numerous academic books and articles, as well as public-facing works that connect history, biochemistry, culture, and health.

He is also a filmmaker. His documentaries, including Envino Veritas: Galicia from Terroir to Natural Wine, have been screened at international film festivals and reflect his long-standing interest in visual anthropology, food cultures, and the public communication of research.
