Dario Balzaretti

Degree in Literature with a medieval historical focus obtained at the University of Turin. Free lance journalist from 1981 to 1986. Teacher of Literature and History. I studied piano and clarinet; I am active as a clarinetist in the Verde Azzurra orchestra of Galliate (No). I published the novels “The Bezoar Stone” in 1991, “A Story” in 2010; the essay “A stupid emperor. Life and works of Tiberius Claudius Germanicus”; the crime novel “Crime at school” in 2016 (third place at the Garda Giallo Award 2017), the novel Donata dalle wave, second place at the M. Guarnaccia sea prize 2020, finalist at the Argentario prize 2020, second place ex aequo at the Nadia literary journalistic prize Toffa in 2022. The essay: The School, the pain of being Italian, 2021. The mystery Who killed Giulia Monti? 2024.

In 2022 I published the detective stories: Minotauro and Canoyn Diablo.

Interests: I study Roman Antiquity, Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages (in particular medieval music).

I participated and obtained recognition in the Bontempelli Marinetti awards (1984) with the story “Il ganzo e il gonzo”; the Val Formazza poetry prize 1988, second prize with the poem "La sera"; the Dante Graziosi Prize in 2004 with the story Il torello di San Antonio published in "These are the ones that count and other stories" Piccolo Torchio editore (No) and in 2008 third prize with The companion without voice published by Piccolo Torchio in "L'America of Pilade and other stories".

Theatre: “The amazement of the peach branches” (2019) set up by the theater school of the Liceo Scientifico C. Alberto of Novara as part of the Alternanza Scuola Lavoro project and performed in Novara, Ornavasso and Domodossola during 2024. “The pannier and the cannon”: drama on the epic of the Carnic carriers. “The Prison”: drama about patriarchy and feminicides. The thousand blue bubbles: drama about influencers and social media, 2024.
