Rocky Saenz was born in Corpus Christi, Texas where he grew up and graduated high school. He then moved to Waco, Texas and completed his undergraduate degree at Baylor University. He then moved to Fort Worth, Texas to attend medical school and received his Doctorate from University of North Texas Health Science Center, Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. It was during his medical school years where he had his first teaching experiences as a tutor in gross anatomy. Thereafter, he moved to Michigan and completed a five year program in diagnostic
radiology residency training at Botsford Hospital an affiliate of Michigan State University (MSU). During his residency, he enhanced his teaching skills by teaching his fellow residents and MSU medical students on a daily basis. He was named Chief resident and completed his first two radiology journal publications in 2005 while in residency. He then completed a 1 year fellowship in cross-sectional imaging at San Francisco General Hospital, University of California in San Francisco.
As a staff Radiologist at Botsford Hospital, he became active in teaching not only radiology residents but also other non-radiology residents. Through these encounters he received countless questions concerning CT by his non-radiology trainees and colleagues. It was their quest for CT knowledge that has inspired him to complete his first book in 2011, CT for the Non-Radiologist. He was awarded the title of fellow by the American Osteopathic College of Radiology in 2015. He then co-authored a 2nd book in 2015 Neuroradiology Case Review and completed the 2nd edition of CT for the Non-Radiologist in 2016. Dr. Saenz published his latest book in 2019 Top 3 Differentials in GI Radiology. He has published multiple articles in the following journals: American Journal of Roentgenology, Radiology, and Journal of the American Osteopathic College of Radiology and published on-line articles for European Society of Radiology, American College of Radiology, Resident and fellow Section of ACR, and American Journal of Orthopedics. He was awarded, faculty teacher/professor of the year 2019-2020 in the department of Radiology at Beaumont, Botsford Campus.
Dr. Saenz is currently a practicing Radiologist in Michigan at Beaumont Hospital, Farmington Hills, formerly Botsford Hospital. He is the Chairman of the Department of Radiology since 2019.
