Richard Beddingfield M.D.
Dr. Richard Beddingfield is a practicing cardiothoracic anesthesiologist at a busy community hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. After a childhood spent in Florida and Georgia, he headed north for college, receiving a bachelor of business administration degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 2001. He spent a few years in a variety of white-collar roles, including cofounding a technology firm and managing tax accounts at a corporate insurance agency. Finally, he decided to go back to school to fulfill a dream first hatched during his senior year in college. He completed prerequisite coursework for medical school and took the MCAT in 2004.
Dr. Beddingfield earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota in 2010, after which he moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and in 2014 completed anesthesiology residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin. A lifelong student, he moved back to Minneapolis to pursue a fellowship in cardiothoracic anesthesiology at the University of Minnesota. Finally, he moved to Madison in August 2015 to start his first real job as a private practice anesthesiologist.
During his years of medical training, Dr. Beddingfield frequently taught and mentored other future physicians. As a chief resident, he introduced students and residents to the basics of anesthesia and the operating room. As a fellow, he instructed residents on cardiothoracic anesthesiology and echocardiography. He still has a passion for helping pre-meds, med students, and residents. Med School Uncensored is the product of that passion and the desire to help tomorrow’s doctors maximize their educations and avoid common mistakes.
Dr. Beddingfield lives with his wife, Laura, and daughters, Lydia and Audrey. When he isn’t at the hospital or writing books, he enjoys spending time with family, travelling, losing money at poker, and playing piano.
