Kate Garchinsky

Kate Garchinsky's first word was “bird.” Her first nickname was "Snowbird." Growing up, when she wasn’t in her room drawing pictures, you might find her perched in a tree, whispering to the birds and squirrels. As an adult, Kate has combined her love for art and nature as a children’s book illustrator and writer.

Kate Garchinsky is the illustrator of six narrative non-fiction animal books for children. Her picture book debut, The Secret Life of the Red Fox, written by Laurence Pringle, was listed as a 2017 NSTA Outstanding Science Trade Book, and an Ezra Jack Keats Award nominee. Kate’s natural history paintings have earned awards from The Academy of Natural Sciences at Drexel University, the Delaware Valley Ornithological Society, and the Valley Forge Audubon Society. She loves presenting art and natural history programs for all ages, both in person and via virtual platforms.
