Alex Rowell

Alex Rowell is the award-winning author of "We Are Your Soldiers: How Gamal Abdel Nasser Remade the Arab World," for which he received the 2025 Lokman Slim Prize. His first book, "Vintage Humour: The Islamic Wine Poetry of Abu Nuwas," was named among the best of 2018 by the Evening Standard. He contributed a chapter to "Tears of Bacchus: A History of Wine in the Arab World." He has written for the BBC, The Washington Post, The Economist and The Wall Street Journal, and is a senior editor at New Lines magazine. He is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.
