I have been writing seriously since winning a prize at school, then a Vogue Talent competition for new writing an age ago, in the days when I was modelling. I have been a journalist since then, writing for the national press and international press, magazines and television including a documentary about being on the road with the Grateful Dead, a documentary sadly unfinished about David Bowie called Jack of All Trades, and a documentary filmed mainly in Peru called Quest for Healing. Naturebirth was written when nursing my third son Liam and now I realise I write my life. I am planning to update Naturebirth as so much has changed since the first edition where I was working with my brilliant editor Rachel Monsarat who gave birth to a baby while we were still working on the book. Now I write on health, music and film for newspapers and supplements and have begun writing plays as a result of embarking on an MPhil post graduate degree. The play, Brief Lies, is about the press as it faces the threat of the internet. Once again, writing what I live. My best advice to would-be writers is an old old adage but true: write what you know. I became more knowledgable about roses over the last fifteen years as I grew cut roses for weddings and special events at my home. Now I advise on rose growing and arranging, and oversee the planting and care of top florist Neal Birks Roses. As we ready them for summer I am working on my proposal for an illustrated book on roses and their role in art, history, health, beauty and literature. I am calling it a passion for roses and I hope you will all enjoy it as much as I loved learning about the subject.
