Umadevi joined Seshadripuram college, in 1980 as a Sanskrit Lecturer. With
her vast and thorough knowledge of the subject coupled with clarity and precision,
she soon endeared herself to the students.
Her hunger for knowledge led her to tread greener pastures of liteature and she added
Kannada M.A., to her academic assets.
Later, she got her Doctorate for her thesis on 'A critical study of Bhagavadgita
Sankarabhashya', from Bangalore University.
Later, she took over as the Principal of Seshadripuram P.U. College, Yelahanka. In a
period of just ten years, she set the college going, with students getting ranks and
distinctions.
During this time, she also translated the Kannada work, "Mahasamparka Vol. 1" authored by Manu to English which received rave reviews.
After her retirement, she took up literary work in earnest. Her book on the great poet
Dr. D. V. Gundappa's, Manku Timmana Kagga', is aptly named, 'Wisdom of Kagga'.
Dr. Umadevi, in her 'Wisdom of Kagga', has caught the essence of the original work, the ways of the world and acceptance of worldly affairs, without compromising
one's values. The intrinsic values brought out in the wise detachment, and the
philosophy of Dr. D. V. G's magnum opus' is well analyzed and emphasized by her.
