I enjoyed telling stories to my children for multiple reasons. Stories capture the imagination and therefore the attention of the listeners. So story time is special time. it's relationship time where ideas and dreams are shared and bonds are formed.
Stories allowed me to impart values to my children like bravery, honesty and other faith based values which I hold. They became dinnertime discussions. "What would the mice do next?" And each of my children then began to create their own stories which boosted their creativity and brainpower while being such fun (unlike school can sometimes be to little boys).
Now that my children are grown, I've rebooted the stories I told them and have seen the same effects in my little niece and nephew. So when my wife again asked me to begin to write down my stories, I finally agreed.
But once I started I realized my mice world was only partially formed, and very little at that. I realized that so much was left unexplained. My tales to the children focused on what happened today. Often they began "Well, today i saw the mice doing...." But I didn't explain who the mice were, why they were in our house and why they had befriended the children.
All these things I've begun to unpack as I share stories about mice who protect children. I hope you'll find these stories wonderful to share with the children in your life. But my higher hopes are that you'll find your own stories that you and your family will hold dear for years to come, just as my family has done.
I have more to write about than mice. But family is most important so I'm starting with that.
