Dr. Marsha L. Carr

Marsha L. Carr holds a business doctorate in Management, and is an award winning educator that served as Department Chair for the Educational Leadership department at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. She joined the faculty in Educational Leadership at the Watson College of Education Leadership at the University of North Carolina Wilmington after 35 years of service in private and public education - a decade as a public school superintendent. As an educator, Carr was bestowed Teacher of the Year Award and was recognized by the Maryland House of Delegates as well as received the Maryland Governor's Citation for her work in school improvement. While a reading specialist in an inner city school, frustrated by the lack of available reading materials, Carr began to travel and study whole language in educational systems in Australia and New Zealand. In 1993, Carr designed a 20-book emergent level reading series named StoryMakers, which became an international success and was later published in two languages. In 1994, Carr was honored with the National Milken Family Educator Award, the most coveted educator award. Carr is the developer of three successful start-ups – her most recent Edu-Tell, LLC and owner of the self-mentoring® registered trademark. While she also specialized in mentoring and coaching, Carr serves as an international consultant in self-mentoring® a leadership development program she developed that is used throughout the United States and in Europe. She is the recipient of the 2015 UNCW Start-Up Award and more recently was awarded 2016 North Carolina Coastal Entrepreneur of the Year for professional service and more recently was recognized among the Top Ten of Ten Entrepreneurs in North Carolina.
