I have published several articles in magazines and written a number of stories as a hobby. A career as an English teacher took up most of my time over 16 years, so it was wonderful to be able to complete my first novel after retiring from that profession. The novel actually began as a short story for my degree in Literature and Creative Writing. My lecturer told me it was more like the outline for a novel and should be given the time and space it deserved. I took him at his word. Twenty years later 'The Sea Child' appeared on the shortlist for the Wells Festival of Literature Children's Story competition. That gave me the final motivation to publish, first as a kindle e-book and then as a paperback.
When I began my second novel, 'The Clouds Dance' (published in 2019), I had no idea that it would reflect 2020 events. The novel takes place about 100 years in the future after a plague has decimated the population of the world. In England, the people have to follow strict rules and cannot leave their town area boundaries. The sequel 'First the Rain Must Fall' follows Matt and Sophie, along with characters old and new, as they gather forces against the Authorities in the hope of reuniting the whole country and bringing about changes to the way they have all had to live.
