Sarah Hewitt

Sarah Hewitt was born and grew up in Sussex. She has always loved to draw and her early experiences influenced her first book 'Grandad'. Writing and illustrating for children has become her passion since graduating from the MA Children's Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art and her work is rooted in observation and informed imagination. Her book 'The Sleeping Garden' about The Lost Garden's of Heligan won two literary awards.

This beautifully illustrated rhyming picture book tells the story of a little girl called Anna and the friends she makes when she invites them to the garden she loves. Anna is a confident, self-reliant little girl who enjoys her own company, but she is also friendly and kind to everyone she meets. The story encourages children to be their true selves but also shows how being kind and sharing can bring friendship.

In highly detailed pictures, Anna is depicted creating her garden through the seasons. As her garden grows, so does her group of friends including an adventurous cat, a friendly, confident little girl who loves to play with her ball, a noisy boy in a magical chair, a bouncy, irrepressible hare, a lonely bear who needs a friend, and an energetic dog who can’t stay still. Each time Anna gives them a gift of friendship and invites them to share what she likes to do.

Anna’s Garden celebrates kindness, the joy of friendship and sharing your passions with others. This sensitively written, meticulously illustrated story for 3- to 7-year-olds would make an excellent addition to any family bookshelf or school library.
