Alan Brown, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of English education in the Department of Education at Wake Forest University where he teaches courses in English education, literacy education, action research, adolescent literature, and educational leadership.
He is a former high school English teacher and basketball coach whose scholarly interests include working with secondary and college students as well as middle and high school teachers and athletic coaches to critically examine the culture of sports in schools and society while connecting contemporary literacies to students’ extra-curricular interests.
Brown is the co-editor of Developing Contemporary Literacies through Sports: A Guide for the English Classroom (NCTE, 2016), and he has been published in various academic journals in the fields of English education, literacy education, and athletics. You can learn more at www.sportsliteracy.org.
