There’s a Chinese proverb that Dr. Chenee’ Gilbert likes. It says 'Even the longest journey starts with a single step.” Which means make a start, even if you're uncertain how things will turn out or where you'll end up with your learning - if you don't take that first step you'll never succeed.
Dr. Gilbert has been an educator for twenty years and is currently an Assistant Professor at an online university. During her stint as a classroom teacher she encountered students who struggled with emotional and social issues. After delving a little deeper into those situations Dr. Gilbert found that they all shared something in common, which was the loss of a loved one. At that moment Dr. Gilbert chose to turn her journal into a children’s book titled, “Mama, Did Mean to Leave So Soon?” Having gone through a life changing experience of losing her mother she could relate to the different characteristics displayed by the students.
Dr. Gilbert’s vision is to help children to communicate their feelings and reprogram their mindsets in order to embrace their full potential.
