Mr. Robert C Saunders

It has not been that long ago that I took ballroom dance lessons for 3 1/2yrs with Fred Astaire Ballroom Dance Studios right off of central Ave here in St. Petersburg, Florida. I had a blast and took copious notes as I was determined to understand the theory, the practice, the science, the art, and the pageantry of dance. What quickly arose on my dance journey is that dancing emerged as expression of humans living, loving and experiencing life itself! It can invoke warlike hostility, promote team solidarity, reveal happiness or stir romantic passion. You may have noted in your own experience that dancing can reveal marital unity or discord. It’s sad when couples don’t dance together anymore, in more ways than one.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence dancing is universally integral to every major societal function were music is involved. Hence, life itself is a dance and each of us must study, observe and, as perfectly as possible, practice the proper steps. Don’t hesitate to acquire the proper knowledge and coaching as “All” of the dance greats had coaches. We must also continue to develop an ear for music, especially good music that motivates us to get up and get into the dance, in synch with the best moments and opportunities that life has to offer.

Nothing is gained by sitting down or being a wallflower, passively watching as others actively engage life stepping on toes at times in the process. What is missing is the spontaneity of being in the moment, childlike, dancing even to an unknown or unspoken rhythm. It is only then that fun, laughter, imagination , excitement, adventure and self discovery awaits the future unwritten chapters of your unrehearsed dance life. These writings are what I have learned, observed and discovered on my own music filled dance journey.
