Taya Malakian Gopalpreet
I was born near Mt. Shasta in California. As curious, intuitive child, I had a natural tendency towards spirit and poetry and a challenging time being in the world.
I found my voice in poetry and remember my mother driving us through a blizzard in the high Sierras where I grew up to get me to my first poetry reading. There I fell in love with reading poems and I also fell in love with my first lover.
In college on the North Coast in Arcata, I studied the Religions of the World focused on Eastern Traditions and the Religions of the Goddess.
That is when the name Taya came to me from the name of a Buddhist deity.
I moved to the foothills in Nevada City, California, to focus on herbalism and healing and took the name Malakian upon getting married to my son’s father.
As I deepened my yoga practice and began teaching I was given the name Gopalpreet, which means the beloved of the Divine, much like my birth name Tiffany, appearance of the Divine.
You could say the Universe has been guiding me in circles and the poems are the songs of that journey.
I am grateful for the opportunity to share these poems with you. Enjoy both the Love and the Longing!
