I am an Associate Professor of Political Science at Boston College and a Research Affiliate with the MIT Security Studies Program. My new books "Rebel Power: Why National Movements Compete, Fight, and Win" and "Coercion: The Power to Hurt in International Politics" are available from Cornell University Press and Oxford University Press, respectively. My research and teaching focus on Middle East politics, terrorism and political violence, national movements, and international relations. I regularly give talks to universities, think tanks, and business and community groups, and I conduct media interviews.
