Corbett Joan OToole

Corbett Joan OToole is a lovable badass writer and historian. Her take-no-prisoners insights are tempered with poignant tales of beautiful acts of kindness in an often too-harsh world. When she is not writing, she's quilting her world onto fabric, laughing with other social outcasts and mentoring amazing disability activists.

When I'm not writing, I make quilts, organize conferences and travel the U.S. in a converted school bus I designed. I call her Joy and our adventures "Rolling Joy" (I use a wheelchair, get the joke?)

My own joys are sitting near water, photographing trees and hanging out with children (even some big ones).

I wish you all the adventures you desire.

Brag corner: This book was a Finalist for the Lambda Literary Award. The Women's March selected 5 books to recommend and Fading Scars is one of the five. San Francisco Art Institute gave me a one woman show of my quilts. Civil Rights Education and Enforcement Center named me the first recipient of the CREEC Intersectionality Award.

PHOTOS: These 3 photos show my co-publisher Elizabeth J. (Ibby) Grace and I; the two of us with friends at the Lambda Literary Awards; and a recent photo of me with short hair.
