Scott Michael Powers

Scott Michael Powers is a retired newspaper journalist turned novelist and short story writer.

Powers has published three mixed-genre novels and a collection of short stories, each dabbling with elements of suspense, thriller, sci-fi, paranormal, humor, or magical realism, whenever they’re called for.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S.A., Powers studied both journalism and creative writing at Ohio University. He pursued a successful journalism career for decades at various newspapers in Texas, Ohio, and Florida, with each state lending some of their more interesting settings and characters to his latter-day fiction. Over time, the newspaperman covered local governments, environmental issues, science, the tourism business, colleges and universities, NASA, and politics. While he was at it, he wrote a few award-winning and policy-changing investigative reports, righted an occasional injustice, exposed a few bad guys, spotlighted a hero or two, and found himself inevitably labeled as an enemy of the people in some circles.

He has long been active in the Florida Writers Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting and supporting literacy, writing, and reading, for both adults and children.

He and his wife Connie live in a nondescript neighborhood with big trees in Orlando, Florida, U.S.A.—easy drives from theme parks, beaches, natural springs, rockets, and excellent Margaritas. He likes hats and dogs. He is a rocker at heart but, sadly, completely devoid of rhythm.
