Ryan Backmann was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. On October 10, 2009, Ryan’s father, Clifford Thomas Backmann, was shot and killed during a robbery in what remains one of Jacksonville’s 1,300+ unsolved murders. In January 2015 Ryan founded Project Cold Case, Inc. in an attempt to help families of unsolved homicide victims. Through publicizing unsolved cases, working with lawmakers on cold case legislation and advocating for families of unsolved homicide victims, the organization has gained national attention. Ryan is committed to making sure these victims are never forgotten and has worked diligently to bridge the gap between information, families and law enforcement, and continues to work toward the ultimate goal of helping resolve cold cases. Ryan was recently appointed to the Florida Cold Case Advisory Commission as the only citizen/advocate/survivor on their review team. Ryan's first book, Grief Diaries: Project Cold Case, was published in 2016.
