Beth Spencer, a geriatric social worker with masters degrees in social work, educational gerontology and English, has worked in the field of aging for more than 40 years, specializing in caregiving and dementia care. She is co-author with Laurie White of several books, including two family caregiver guides: Coping with Behavior Change in Dementia and Moving a Relative with Dementia. During the 1990s, Beth had a private practice and worked as a home care and hospice social worker. More recently she has been Director of the University of Michigan (UM) Silver Club Memory Loss Programs, a clinical social worker in UM geriatric clinics and Project Manager for UM Hartford Center of Excellence in Geriatric Social Work. She has been a lecturer at various universities, most recently UM School of Social Work. Beth shared the primary caregiver responsibilities for her older mother until her death in 2016.
