Jared Milrad

Jared Milrad, J.D., M.S. is an award-winning author, filmmaker, singer-songwriter, entrepreneur, and lifelong advocate for social change. For more than two decades, he has led transformative initiatives across the White House, Hollywood, national nonprofits, and global social ventures.

At the National Audubon Society, Jared directs high-level philanthropic strategy, building six- to eight-figure partnerships that support climate, biodiversity, and habitat protection worldwide.

He is the founder of Movikarma, an award-winning nonprofit that fosters inclusion in Hollywood by empowering underrepresented storytellers. Through Movikarma, Jared launched an Inclusive Pathways Fellowship Program, a social impact streaming platform, and a film festival that has engaged more than 600 filmmakers across 50+ countries. His podcast, Rewriting Hollywood, features Oscar- and Emmy-winning artists and amplifies diverse voices across the entertainment industry. Jared has collaborated with TIME Studios and leading studios and organizations including Warner Bros. Discovery, Netflix, Paramount, Disney, HBO Max, Apple, Lionsgate, and The Obama Foundation. A finalist for the Sundance Episodic Lab, he has written, directed, and produced award-winning films including Expecting and Distance.

Jared previously worked for President Barack Obama on both presidential campaigns and in the White House, and he supported a national transgender equity initiative under the Biden Administration. Earlier, he founded Civic Legal Corps, a nonprofit that made legal services more affordable, earning recognition from U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, philanthropist Peter Buffett, and Harvard Law School Dean Martha Minow. He has been featured in The New York Times, TIME, MSNBC, The Advocate, and Out Magazine.

As an author, Jared has published multiple works, including his memoirs Believe In You and So, You Think You Want To Get (Gay) Married, as well as poetry collections The Love You Left Behind, If Only You Had Stayed, and And The Dawn Will Come. His writing explores love, grief, identity, and resilience with honesty and lyrical depth.

Jared earned his J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law, a master’s degree from Tufts University, and graduated with highest honors from North Carolina State University, where he received the General Hugh Shelton Leadership Award and delivered the student commencement address.

He lives in Southern California with his beloved rescue dog, Dolly.
