Following graduation, Len volunteered for service in the U.S. Army and attended Engineer Officer Candidate School, receiving his commission as a Distinguished Graduate. He served 3 years from 1969-1972 and was honorably discharged as a 1st Lieutenant.

He returned to Santa Clara University and earned a Master of Business Administration degree, followed by a career in business.

Since 2002, he has been involved in writing, publishing and speaking on politics, political philosophy, contemporary issues and current events. During that time, he has been the publisher and principal contributor to the Sierra Sage magazine, previously in print and now exclusively on-line.
