Growing up as a young child Sarina felt great excitement and expectation when visiting the library, which her mother ensured she did often. It was on these days she would immerse her senses in the rich smell of well-loved books and settle into the journey that awaited her, as she turned each page. Sarina was hungry for the escape into her imagination and learned early on, that each book gave her something new: it created a broader horizon and endless possibilities in her growing mind. It was like going on a holiday albeit from the comfort of the small arm chair she favored, in her section of the library. The tapestry of endless words and stories ignited a fire in her belly that would take years to fully understand.

As a highly sensitive adolescent when her world and family life changed dramatically, books became Sarina’s salvation. They offered a way to cope with the chaos that ensued during those years. . She thought the types of people that wrote books were wildly famous individuals that had special gifts and circumstances. They felt a world away from her reality but she didn’t care, she was hooked, She used stories and words to maintain her sanity. The motivation to express herself was well and truly burning inside, yet she didn’t dare share her thoughts for fear of having her struggles known by those closest to her.

After a chance opportunity to enter a writing competition found her at school, she entered. Her efforts were rewarded with a partially paid trip overseas. Her mother saved every cent in order to match the ticket price and afford Sarina the experience of travel. Once there Sarina was thrust into a whole new world and culture. It was the first time Sarina witnessed comparison to her own life. The world was a much bigger place then she had originally imagined. It had a lasting effect and quickly redefined the “possibilities” she envisioned for herself and future. She now understood that she alone held the power to shape her world.

Today, Sarina is a mother to three beautiful children and runs a large business with her treasured husband, Michael. Raising a family whilst building a successful business from scratch has not come with out its own set of challenges and lessons. However, Sarina has harnessed this balance by allowing her creativity to flow, creating children’s stories. She does this by tapping into the small child inside herself that longed for understanding and had many questions.

Sarina found her “allowance” to start writing after almost losing her middle child. He was hospitalized and the course of events was so pivotal, that she wanted empower him to write about his experience. The book was created to help other children faced with long stays at hospital. Sarina co wrote with her six year old son Kian, “My Hospital Stay”. It was exactly the push she needed to tap into her creativity and desire to help others.

Today Sarina’s wish is to offer her children and other children around the world, the opportunity to escape into the wonderland of stories. With the use of fun, emotionally intelligent stories and vibrant imagery, she captivates young readers and evokes their ability to imagine and question.

This speaks to the heart of Sarina’s greatest motivation and passion which lays in empowering young minds to express themselves, and their creativity, in whatever form that takes on.
