Will Brownell

Will Brownell, PhD, is an international scholar with both military and academic experience. He served in Vietnam with the US State Department and Army as a translator/interpreter, then later obtained a doctorate in International Affairs at Columbia University in New York City under Roger Hilsman, President Kennedy's Undersecretary of State for Asia. There he also earned awards as a French literary translator.

Doctor Brownell believes that history should be written for an audience far beyond the academic, in order to reach out to the millions of readers who find academic history long and boring. His most recent work, "The First Nazi, The Man who made Hitler Possible," is meant to be a work of that style, well focused, and can be read in one weekend. it is the incredible true story of the World War I General who enabled Hitler’s rise, paved the way for the Holocaust and World War II, and initiated chemical war technology. This same Ludendorff also sent Lenin to Russia to start the Russian (October) Revolution.

Brownell's work before that was "So Close to Greatness," the first biography of US Ambassador W. C. Bullitt. Bullitt was the ambassador for Roosevelt who started the US disaster in Vietnam.

Brownell lives in New York City with Denise Drace Brownell, J.D., M.P.H.,who is his wonderful wife and co-author.

"The First Nazi" is their first book together but, beyond doubt, not their last.
