John V. Clune is an Assistant Professor of History at the U.S. Air Force Academy. In 2014, John earned his PhD from the University of Kansas in International History with his minor fields in African History and World History. His book, “The Abongo Abroad: Military-Sponsored Travel in Ghana, the US, and the World, 1959-1992" explores international military travel, either via education and training programs abroad or United Nations peacekeeping duties, from the perspectives of the men and women who traveled and the communities who supported them as guests. “Military Internationalism” is the phrase he coined to describe the transnational identity that sometimes united individuals from around the world in the context of national, military-sponsored travel. John graduated with Academic Distinction from the Air Force Academy in 1995, and earned an MA in U.S. History from the University of Colorado in 1996. In 2010 he earned an Outstanding Academy Educator Award at the Air Force Academy, where he has taught World History, Military History, African History, Senior Capstone in International History, and Historiography and Research Methods courses. He lives in Monument, Colorado with his wife and children.
