Dean Gloster

I'm a former stand-up comedian, former lawyer, and former law clerk to two U.S. Supreme Court Justices. Now I write full time and go to school at the Vermont College of Fine Arts low-residency writing for children and young adults MFA program, with amazing classmates.

I live in Berkeley, California, and my winter hobby is downhill ski racing.

Dessert First is my first book, about smart, funny 16-year old, Kat Monroe, who is having a difficult year--even before she donates her bone marrow to save her younger brother. School Library Journal calls it a "sweet, sorrowful, and simply divine debut novel.... This wonderful story...will be a hit with fans of John Green's The Fault in Our Stars and Jesse Andrews's Me and Earl and the Dying Girl." NYT #1 bestseller Ally Condie of the Matched Trilogy and Summerlost (a terrific writer and wonderful person--you should buy her books) says "Dessert First is a beautiful novel about breaking and mending, what we lose and how we try to save. Kat's story is moving and bittersweet, and I couldn't put it down."
