I have always loved books, both to read and now to write (and edit). I read anything, and I write and edit non-fiction. I reflexively line-edit all that I read.

My Training

I have a doctorate (Ph.D.) in plant ecology from the University of Michigan. I knew at the end of my degree I wasn't going to be a professor, and since I had always been interested in the communication of science, I sought and found work as a technical writer. I still nurse a dream to be the John McPhee of the Bruce Peninsula.

My Career Path

I started as a tech writer for a scientific software company in Ann Arbor. I worked on online help for the software, a process that directly parallels making an ebook.

My path has taken me from technical writer to project manager at the software company, through operations at a web company, then relationship manager and Chief Operating Officer at an Internet marketing company, and then now back to author and editor. I love learning and change.

I also consult on marketing and operations in Ann Arbor and metro Detroit.
