Stephen Evans

Stephen Evans (Maldivian Stephen) is an author, artist, Navy veteran, and chef who believes stories are one of the most powerful ways people connect across cultures and generations.

A burly, bearded, tattooed storyteller with a lifelong habit of creating, Evans has written several children’s books along with the philosophical fable The Parrot on the Bridge. His work blends imagination, humor, and reflection, inviting readers of all ages to see the world from a slightly different angle.

His journey as a writer truly began on the small island of Olhuvelifushi in the Maldives, where he volunteered at the local school. While teaching and coaching the students, Evans often had to communicate through drawings in the sand, gestures, and laughter when words failed. The experience inspired him to create a photo journal about his time on the island.

The following year he returned with copies of the book for the students. During a school assembly, the children passed the book around and read it page by page. When the final page was finished, the room erupted in cheers and laughter. In that moment, Evans realized something that had been quietly growing inside him for years: storytelling wasn’t just something he enjoyed—it was his calling.

Today he continues to write and create art that celebrates imagination, curiosity, and the quiet magic that happens when people share a story together.
