J. Pearce Beissinger, MS, PA-C, FAWM is a physician assistant with a background in cardiac surgery, orthopedics, and wilderness medicine. He is a partner/owner of the consulting group- Vertical Medicine Resources (www.vertical-medicine.com). Together with his partners, he caters to the needs of climbers and alpinists while serving as a climbing instructor(AMGA-SPI) and medical guide. These efforts have taken him around the world with journeys to Nepal, Vietnam, and both the east and west coast of America. In the past, Pearce's writing focus has included the technology column of Wilderness Medicine Magazine and more recently, Vertical Aid.
He lives in Portland, Oregon with his wife (Heather) and their two children. When not climbing and racing bikes, he serves as president of Portland Mountain Rescue and is an active member of his local church.
