Joyce E. Brooks

Joyce E. Brooks was born October 12, 1966 in Prichard, Alabama. Joyce’s journey to becoming an author was not a straight path. She became an author in responds to unexpected life changing events.

Joyce holds two degrees in electrical engineering from the University of South Alabama and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Joyce started her corporate career over two decades ago. Her career was on the fast track, but in September 2008, a breast cancer diagnosis forced Joyce to step back and reevaluate how she managed her time. At the time, she was juggling a lot of balls—professional, mother, wife, daughter, sister, friend, volunteer, church member, and the list goes on…

Joyce realized that her very best was being hindered by her overloaded schedule and lack of work-life balance. After being declared cancer free in 2009, she pressed the reset button and started implementing strategies to live a more balanced life. This new approach led her to start writing, painting, and spending quality time with family and friends.

Four years after her breast cancer diagnosis, Joyce stepped out on faith and decided to retire from her promising career to focus on her family, becoming an entrepreneur and helping other professionals achieve work-life balance. That same year, Joyce published her first book, Self-Inflicted Overload, where she opens up about her personal journey to achieving balance and shares her five-step strategy to help others do the same.

She was living a more balanced life when suddenly, May 2014, Joyce lost her husband and soul mate of 14 years and instantly became the head of a single parent household with two young boys. Joyce yet again pressed the reset button, publishing her second, aptly named book, It Ain’t Over!, in the process.

Joyce continues to write and give talks on managing stress, grief and adapting to change. Today, she resides in Birmingham, Alabama with her two sons ages 11 and 14.
