Bryan Ney M.D. writes historical fiction from his home base in Malibu. His debut novel, "Calamity Jane: How the West Began" was a finalist in several contests. Research on that story led to his latest, based on the life of James Beckwourth, freed slave who became a vaunted leader among the Crow tribe in the 1820's. Bryan's stories immerse the reader in fascinating episodes of American history that are well documented, but little known; passed over in history books due to being overshadowed by larger events.
