Keith Morgen is Associate Professor of Psychology and Counseling at Centenary University (Hackettstown, New Jersey), where he teaches in the undergraduate psychology and graduate counseling programs. His research on substance use, trauma, and prisoner mental health has been published in major scholarly journals such as Traumatology, Therapeutic Communities, The Gerontologist, The Professional Counselor, Journal of Correctional Healthcare, Journal of Addictions and Offender Counseling, Alcoholism Treatment Quarterly, Applied Research in Quality of Life, Journal of Drug Issues, and Journal of Alcohol and Drug Education. Dr. Morgen is the author of the book Substance Use Disorders and Addictions (Sage) and the co-author of the upcoming book Aging Behind Prison Walls (Columbia University Press). In addition, Dr. Morgen presents papers at major conferences such as the American Counseling Association, American Public Health Association, American Psychological Association, and the College on Problems of Drug Dependence. Dr. Morgen is a former president (2013–2014) of the International Association of Addictions and Offender Counselors (a division of the American Counseling Association) and currently serves as the Clinical Psychology Conference Programming Chair for the Eastern Psychological Association. Dr. Morgen is a Licensed Professional Counselor (New Jersey) and Approved Clinical Supervisor and engages in a part-time counseling practice at Discovery Psychotherapy & Wellness Centers in Morristown, New Jersey. He is a past recipient of the Centenary Distinguished Teaching Award. Dr. Morgen received his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology (Lehigh University) and was a Pre-Doctoral and Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Behavioral Sciences Training in Drug Abuse Research Program funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and jointly sponsored by the Medical Health Research Association (MHRA) of New York City, Inc. and National Development and Research Institutes (NDRI), New York, NY.
