Native of Washington, DC, Wendell Hawken earned her MFA in Poetry at Warren Wilson College's Program for Writers in July 2005, thirty-nine years after her VassarCollege BA. She has two chapbooks: Mother Tongue (Argonne House Press, 2001) and The Spinal Sequence (Finishing Line Press, 2013) and a full collection The Luck of Being (The Backwaters Press, 2008). Her poetry sequence, Throat of Morning, won Fish Publishing's Short Memoir contest in 2015 and her second collection, White Bird, which includes these award-winning poems, was published August 2, 2017 by Future Cycle Press, Athens, GA.
