In the 1970's I worked as a uranium miner near Grants, NM. "Underground and Radioactive' is an account of my experiences working underground. It's a collection of character studies and anecdotes meant to be funny with an underlying seriousness that's inherent to mining. A series of incidents convinced me that I didn't belong underground and eventually forced me to the surface where I worked for many years as an economist and economic analyst. Not nearly as much fun.

Uranium mining is now gone from what once was labeled "The Uranium Capital of the World," but the history remains. This book gives the reader a taste of what it was like and is unlike any other book I've run across. There isn't much technical information here and you won't learn how to mine, but there are some good stories about some extraordinary people who worked in the dark.
