A.K. Roberts

We face challenges and overcome obstacles nearly every day of our life; it’s how we handle those challenges and overcome those obstacles that matter most. You can choose to let it stop you from living the life you want or you can choose overcome it, fight for what you want and let it make you stronger. A.K. Roberts is no stranger to overcoming obstacles and she has faced more challenges than she can recall, but she can also attest to the fact that each time it has happened it has only made her stronger. Born in St. Louis, MO on April 30, 1970 her mother was a school teacher; her father a blue collar worker. The oldest of two, her family didn’t have much, they often struggled to make ends meet, but Roberts had no idea. She was a happy child, but that happiness wouldn’t last long. As the years went by, her parents’ struggles continued to grow. Her father was on the verge of becoming an alcoholic, he was spending most of his time at bars, partaking in risky behavior and he put his family in danger on more than once occasion. Roberts’ mother had finally had enough, but being a devout Catholic she struggled with the decision to file for divorce. Exhausting all attempts to make the marriage work, she finally did what she had to do and in 1984 she was granted a divorce and an annulment from the Catholic church. Things were better after her father moved out, but that didn’t last long. Four months later her mother was forced to sell her childhood home, give half the profits to her father and they were forced to move into a flat. Roberts’ life changed forever. Everything she had ever known was gone. Her mother tried to make things better, but no one could have predicted the events that were about to come. Her father was spinning out of control, he was associating with devious and deviant people, putting her in harm’s way and suddenly she was forced to deal with things no fourteen-year-old girl should ever have to face. Angry about the things her father was doing, she needed an out, a way to express her true feelings and emotions in a safe way. Her counselor suggested she use her love for writing as an outlet. Little did Roberts know that one day she would stumble across that writing and use those stories as a launching off point that would become the plot of her first novel series, A Life Interrupted. Although the names and the setting has changed, most of the events have not. If you like novels with a little mystery, lots of suspense, along with lies, deception, some political scandals and corruption I think you will like this near tragic love story and how the main character’s put the pieces of the puzzle together to uncover the real truth.
