Hélène Stauffer Hero (1913-1965) was born in New Orleans into a prosperous, intellectual family. She married Alvin Hero and moved to rural Belle Chasse, Louisiana where the Heroes had a land company. The texture and destructive force of that life are revealed in these letters.
