I was inspired to write Sins Of The Fathers by a cold case that has remained unsolved for fifty years in my hometown of Superior, Wisconsin. The 1966 homicide of Michael Fisher was shocking - the violent death of a 14-year-old boy in a small, close knit community. The investigation turned up few clues and even fewer suspects from the beginning and quickly went cold. The tragedy still haunts the little town and the people who lived there during that fateful summer. It is that lasting impact within the community, a facet of all cold cases, that motivated me to write Sins Of The Fathers.

My father served on the Superior PD for more than 12 years. The many tales he told of his years walking the beat and then cruising the streets, first as a motorcycle cop and then in a black and white, gave me an insider's view of departmental procedures and crime investigation.

In Sins Of The Fathers, two homicides committed fifty years apart seem to have glaring similarities to local reporter, Rita Sullivan. The dynamic between Rita and her grandfather, Pops, as well as her challenging relationship with Det. Rick Drake, play off of her desire to break the cold case and slay the demons of her past, including her suspicions about her own father's unexplained death.

Although inspired in part by a true incident, Sins Of The Fathers is a work of fiction in its entirety and does not portray any actual events, person or persons alive or dead.
