Todd Millick worked overseas for twenty years in the US government. This included fun places like Algeria, Pakistan, Iraq, Haiti, and Afghanistan. Along the way, he was kicked, cursed, bitten, robbed, spit on, poisoned, tear gassed, mortared, and rocketed—all while having the time of his life. Todd studied medieval history at Colorado and received a master's degree from Cambridge; he was also a Fulbright Scholar in the Balkans. He recently crossed Bulgaria, west to east, on foot. Nasty, Brutish, and Short, his first nonfiction book, is a memoir about life overseas—without much sugar coating. It is a mostly humorous travel book, meant to be laughed at, not taken pedantically. The chapter Friendly Fire was nominated for the Pushcart Prize.
