Paul McMichael

Paul lives in London with his husband - 37 years and counting. He is the winner of the Bristol Short Story Award, 2013 for his story The House On St John's Avenue; a comedy of manners set at a dinner party interrupted by a strange, cosmological event that brings one couple to breaking point. He was shortlisted for The Ice Ages in the 2015 competition and published in the subsequent anthology. His short story, After The Rhododendrons, was broadcast on RTE radio in 2013. Other stories have been short-listed for the Brighton Prize, Bath 2013 and Fish Publications 2013 short story competitions.

Although he was born along the rugged coast of Ireland's north eastern tip, he is inspired by the thought that the big city and the sublime seaside village can be as bleak or as mysterious as the other.

He is working on his first novel: Running With The Beautiful Stars is a gripping and heart-wrenching story that dissects then celebrates a new kind of loving in a world that would destroy it. It writes queer identities back into a history from which they have been so long excluded or forgotten.
