Joyce Smith Helyer is the author of Scattering Ashes: A Sister’s Journey With Her Gay Brother, and helped edit several other books. Joyce is a Texan who migrated to California with her parents and then relocated to the Midwest with her professor husband. Most of her career was spent in higher education administration at Taylor University. Joyce was named one of fifteen "Best of the Best" Faculty Members during the 1990's at a Christian Stewardship Association Annual Meeting. She has two adult children and two grandchildren. She enjoys co-hosting tours to Israel and Turkey, discussing theological issues with her husband while drinking steaming black cups of tea over breakfast, browsing cookbooks, teaching a Bible Study, eating dark chocolate, exploring new places, and reading historical fiction, memoirs and mysteries.
