Kimberly Dixon

Born in November 1970, Kimberly's life started with a challenge. Her legs were so bowed she could not walk. Every time she took a step she fell. So at 4 years old she had her first surgery. By the time she was 12 years old, she had arthritis in both knees. She suffered with the progressive, debilitating pain of arthritis for 35 years before getting her knees replaced. This story may seem sad but Kimberly refused to let life circumstances steal her joy. What started as her biggest obstacle became her greatest blessing.

In her life, she had eight surgeries on her legs and knees (after three surgeries in 2015, the surgery count is at eleven). Each surgery was different from the other in regards to recovery time, physical therapy, and pain level. The one thing they all had in common was that they taught her something different. The daily struggles, surgeries and pain endured taught her many valuable lessons about life, health, happiness and perseverance. The purpose of the Now What series is to share her experiences with others as well as help people experiencing a similar situation.

In 2017 Kimberly penned her compelling story in her autobiography. This autobiography tells of her childhood days playing in the foothills of North Carolina along with the many struggles, trials and obstacles she faced. Read the intimate details of her life as a young woman. Read the details of each surgery she experienced. Read about her hopes, her dreams and her disappointments. Read how she fought to regain her life after being in what felt like the deepest of valleys.

Any one can relate to to her story and gleam a wealth of insight and knowledge from it.
